Screening for chronic kidney disease (CKD) should be a priority among at-risk patients as this condition is common, usually silent and a major risk factor for early mortality. So says clinician scientist, Professor Merlin Thomas, who, in this talk, will present data on the prevalence and significance of CKD as well as providing details on who to screen, how to screen and how to mitigate the risk of further progression and complications. In particular, he will discuss the pivotal role of SGLT-2 inhibitors in CKD and how early introduction can help avoid not only future renal failure but also cardiovascular adverse events.
